W.Va. miner pleads guilty to falsifying documents

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A former Big River Mining employee has pleaded guilty to lying on federal mining documents.

Assistant United States Attorney Blaire Malkin says 31-year-old Neil Hasen of Alkol pleaded guilty Monday to using another worker’s identification number when he signed off on forms that indicated that pre-shift and on-shift mine examinations were completed.

Hasen said he did so because he was not qualified to perform the examinations or to certify that they had been performed lawfully.
