Carol “Tootie” Ruth Smith, 76, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Ironton native was born Aug. 29, 1934, the daughter of the late Golden and Hazel Ferguson Thacker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Smith.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and attended Sheridan Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Jean Pennington and Patricia Stone.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Melissa Thacker of Ironton;

four grandchildren, Kevin Thomas Thacker, Kacy Jo Lovelace, Steven Tyler Thacker and Kelli Jo Thacker; and four sisters, Joann Kinney of Ironton, Sue Galbreath of St. Petersburg, Fla., Virginia Dale Delong of Delaware and Donna Harmon of Coal Grove.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
