Carl Coburn

Carl Gene Coburn, 76, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 13, 2011, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Boyd County, Ky., native was born Jan. 19, 1935, the son of the late Charles E. and Shirley Wright Coburn.

Mr. Coburn was a graduate of Waterloo High School and Morehead State University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a former employee for CSX for 26 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he was a visitation minister, Sunday school teacher and part of the bus ministry. He was Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Ironton Elks Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Coburn and Bill Coburn; and three brothers-in-law, Norbert Meredith, Rondal Robinson and Rodney Haines.

He is survived by four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jennifer and Gerald Vaughn of Ironton, Dorothy Meredith of Oxnard, Calif., Anna Lou Robinson of Ironton and Shirley Haines of Russellville, Ky.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Clarice Coburn of South Point, Kenneth and Mary Coburn of Pedro and Ralph and Pat Coburn of South Point.

He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Mullens and Pastor Jim Carey officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites provided by VFW Post #8850. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home.
