Chesy center key part of community

The Chesapeake Community Center lives up to its name in every sense of those three words.

The former school that was converted for citizens’ use years ago continues to thrive and grow because of the tremendous community support that helps keep the doors open and even open opportunities for more involvement.

Without this level of ownership and participation from eastern Lawrence County citizens, the community center would have long since closed its doors.

It continues to provide a location for a variety of events and activities for the health and enjoyment of residents.

That list of offerings will soon include Biddy league basketball workshops.

Thanks to the generous donation from an anonymous donor, the center had lights for the gymnasium. The problem was there was no one to install them.

That is where Chris Hunt and a few friends came in.

The youth coach volunteered his time to get these lights installed and hopes to offer youth basketball workshops and training.

Although there is always more work to be done and the organization always needs more funding, we applaud every individual and organization that has done their part to make the community center thrive over the years.

That is exactly the way a facility like this should operate, as a reflection of those it serves and the needs of the community.
