Fairland lost 1-0 to the Oak Hill Lady Oaks in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday despite a no-hitter by the Lady Dragons’ Amber Bias.

The Lady Dragons got another good pitching performance in the second game by Sashe Burcham, but this time the offense came to life as Fairland had 11 hits and won 9-3.

“We had a rough time the first game. Amber pitched a great game but we couldn’t get our bats going,” said Fairland coach Joe Auxier.

“The second game Sashe pitcher real well and we hit the ball. That was the difference.”

Bias stuck out three and walked two in the first game. The only run came in the first inning with the aid of a Fairland error.

Fairland’s Jaimie Phillips and Haley Woodall singled for the only hits in the first game.

Burcham struck out three, gave up five hits and did not walk a batter in winning the second game.

Burcham also went 3-3 with a double to lead the offense. Chloe Stanley was 2-4 with a double and two runs batted in and Kerie Napier was 2-4 with a double and three RBI while Stormie Spitzer was 2-4 with an RBI.

Fairland took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Woodall and Bias reached on errors and Burcham had a two-run double.

Oak Hill got a run back in the bottom of the inning, but Fairland scored twice in the fourth inning.

Burcham, Chloe Stanley and Chelsea Stanley all singled for a run and Napier hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored.

Oak Hill got within 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, but Fairland scored a run in the sixth and four in the seventh.

In the sixth, Burcham singled and Napier doubled.

In the seventh, Woodall reached on an error and scored on Phillips’ hit. Burcham was intentionally walked and Chloe Stanley had a two-run double. Napier’s RBI single capped the rally.

Fairland plays at Coal Grove Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
