CHESAPEAKE — Somebody get the Chesapeake Lady Panthers an eraser.

Mistakes hampered the young Lady Panthers as they fell 8-5 to the Huntington St. Joseph Lady Fighting Irish Saturday.

Despite getting seven hits and scoring five runs against Irish ace Sarah Sang, Chesapeake was guilty of four errors and six walks.

“We just made some mistakes,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice. “We had some errors, abut we had some base-running mistakes and periods we didn’t throw strikes.

“We’ve got a lot of new players and people playing different positions.”

After a walk, Sarah Sang singled and an outfield error sent her to third base as the run scored. Jennifer Sang singled home her sister and the Irish led 2-0 in the first inning.

Four walks gave the Irish a run in the second inning.

Chesapeake (1-6) scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Myky Harmon doubled, Mary Allen walked, Anna Mayo had an RBI single and Jordan Porter’s ground ball drove in a run.

The Lady Panthers took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the third.

Sarah Rice walked and Caitilyn Heffner and Harmon singled to produce a run. Mayo then grounded out as courtesy runner Alyssa Arthur scored.

But the Irish took the lead with two runs in the fourth that proved to be an instant replay of the first inning.

A walk was followed by Sarah Sang’s base hit that got through the outfield and allowed her to go to third base as the run scored. Jennifer Sang then had her second RBI single.

St. Joseph scored three times in the seventh including a two-run single by Erin Pemberton.

Chesapeake got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Sarah Mayo singled, Heffner walked and Harmon singled to drive in her third run of the game.

Harmon was 3-4 with three RBI and Sarah Mayo went 2-4.

Jennifer Sang was 3-3 and Sarah Sang 2-2.

The two teams meet again Monday at St. Joseph’s field.
