The Redmen used two big innings to score all their runs as they blanked the Coal Grove Hornets 13-0 Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Rock Hill (7-0, 4-0) opened the game with a nine-run first inning and capped it with four runs in the fifth inning to finish the game early.

Ryan Hackworth got the win for the Redmen as he gave up five hits, struck out four and walked one.

Conor Markins pitched well in relief for Coal Grove after taking over in the first inning.

“(Jared) Eldridge couldn’t get his breaking pitch over, so Conor came in and threw well. He kept them off-balance,” said Hornets’ coach Dean Mader.

“It’s hard to dig yourself out of a 9-run hole.”

Rock Hill had 12 hits with Devin Darby and Drew Kidd hitting home runs. Shane Russell and Ryan Depriest doubled.

Russell walked and scored on a hit by Kidd to start the early uprising. Jon Schob and Cody Massie singled for a run. Chris Donohue singled for a run, Darby was safe on a fielder’s choice and Matt Jenkins walked.

Depriest doubled home a pair, Jared Bruce walked, Russell doubled in two and Schob had an RBI single.

Kidd led off the fifth inning with a home run and it was 10-0. Schob reached on an error, Donohue walked and Darby cranked a three-run homer.

In league games Wednesday, Coal Grove is at Fairland and Rock Hill hosts Chesapeake.
