PEDRO — The best pitch a pitcher can throw is a strike.

Rock Hill’s Devin Darby was throwing strikes while the Redmen batters were the recipients of 10 walks in a 10-0 five-inning Ohio Valley Conference win over the River Valley Raiders Friday.

Darby allowed just two hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter. Meanwhile, two Raider pitchers combined for 10 walks.

“We didn’t have a lot of hits, but that was because of the walks. We were somewhat patient at the plate. Really, we could have been even more patient,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“On the other end, Devin threw well. He was throwing strikes.”

Jonathan Schob doubled and Cody Massie singled as Rock Hill took a 1-0 lead in the first.

Darby walked, moved up on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Depriest to make it 2-0 in the second.

The lead went to 6-0 in the third inning as Drew Kidd, Schob and Darby all walked, Massie beat out an infield hit and Depriest had a three-run triple.

Rock Hill (10-1, 7-1) scored three more in the fourth.

Shane Russell walked, Kidd singled, Schob and Chris Donohue walked for a run and Darby had a two-run double.

The final run scored in the fifth when Jared Bruce and Kidd singled to put runners on the corners with one out and Schob hit into a force out as the Raiders failed to turn a double play.

Rock Hill hosts Lewis County, Ky., on Monday.
