PEDRO — It was a case of hit and miss with the Rock Hill Redwomen. Fortunately, they hit more than they missed.

Rock Hill used some key hitting and strong pitching to beat the River Valley Lady Raiders 6-3 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We hit the ball, but we hit sporadically and we hit a lot of balls right at them,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper. “Give River Valley credit. They’re not a bad team.”

Sami Nixon got the win as she allowed only five hits, struck out nine and did not issue a walk.

Dani Crabtree clubbed a home run to start a four-run second inning for Rock Hill.

Nicole Stamper and Haylia Gannon singled to put runners on the corners and Gannon stole second. Morgan Damron singled for two runs and Chelsea Harper had an RBI single.

River Valley got within 4-3 in the fifth inning when Katelyn Birchfield singled, Hannah Overstreet hit into a fielder’s choice, Chynna Mershon was safe on an error, Kelcie Carter grounded out as a run scored, Emily VanSickle singled in a run and an error scored the final run.

Rock Hill scored a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Crabtree walked, Brooke Eastham was hit by a pitch, the runners moved up on a wild pitch and Damron drilled a two-run double.

The OVC league-leading Redwomen (9-2, 8-0) will host Ironton on Monday.
