The Flyers racked up 15 hits to back the two-hit pitching of Riley as St. Joseph routed the River Valley Raiders 11-1 in six innings on Monday.

“We’re still making too many mistakes on the bases, but overall it was a pretty good win,” said Flyers’ coach Greg Bryant. “We hit the ball well. Every starter had at least one hit. And Tanner threw the ball well.”

Riley struck out seven and walked two as he picked up the win. Justin Mahlmeister was 4-5 to lead the offense. Riley and Levi Hopkins were 2-4 and Nick Roach 2-2.

The Flyers (11-3) snapped a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning.

Mahlmeister and Riley singled with one out and pulled off a double steal. T.J. Young doubled both runners home and Cody Blackburn and Luke McGraw followed with hits to score a run.

Grant Geswein squeezed home the fourth run.

The lead went to 6-0 in the fourth inning.

Payton Blair walked, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a hit by Mahlmeister. After Mahlmeister stole second he scored when Riley was safe on an error.

Geswein, Roach and Hopkins singled and Mahlmeister grounded out as the Flyers added a run in the fifth.

River Valley finally scored in the top of the sixth, but the Flyers came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Blackburn walked and moved up on two wild pitches. Geswein walked and stole second and a throwing error scored Blackburn.

Roach walked and Hopkins, Blair and Mahlmeister had consecutive RBI singles.

The Flyers hosts South Point at 5 p.m. Thursday on Senior Night.
