The Green Lady Bobcats got a rare win in a close game as they beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 5-4 on Monday.

“It was a good win for us. We needed to win a close game,” said Green coach Dale Royse.

“Jenna Crawford did a good job getting people out when she needed. We just have to eliminate mental mistakes.”

Crawford gave up nine hits, struck out seven and walked only two.

Sarah Rice took the loss as she gave up just four hits, struck out six but walked seven.

Green took a 2-0 win in the second inning without the aid of a hit.

Dinah McCloud reached on an error, Sami Crisp was hit by a pitch and Crawford grounded out as McCloud scored. Crisp came home on a passed ball.

The lead went to 5-0 in the third when Gidget Timberman singled, Bre Johnson tripled her home, McCloud walked and Crisp had a two-run double.

Chesapeake got within 5-3 in the fourth inning on singles by Macy Allen, Anna Mayo, Ali Ransbottom and an error.

The Lady Panthers got a run in the fifth when Caitlin Heffner singled, stole second, moved up on a deep fly ball and scored on an error.

Green (10-6) hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame on Tuesday.
