Charles W. Howard

Charles W. Howard 81, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2011, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. He was born March 13, 1930 in New Boston, a son of the late Charles C. and Genoa (Weddington) Howard. Charles was a 1948 graduate of Piketon High School. Following graduation, he was employed in Dayton, joined the United States Navy, was honorably discharged, and returned to Lucasville to work the family farm.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mavis Irene (Scott) Howard, whom he married on March 24, 1951. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff Howard and Scott and Jennifer Howard, all of Ironton; three grandchildren, Scott Howard, Jr. and fiancée Brittani Farinacci of Cleveland, Talia Howard of Columbus, and Tiffany (Doug) Graham of South Point; and one great-grandson Scheyer Graham. He was predeceased by four sisters, Elsie Conley, Gladys Worstell, Mabel Addington, and infant sister, Irene Howard.

Charles and Irene were the owners of Howard’s Furniture and Appliance Store in Ironton for 33 years. He was an avid golfer for many years at the Ironton Country Club and was a member of the Ironton Elks Club. He was a member of The Bridges Christian Church in Russell, Kentucky, for the past 11 years

The funeral will be held on Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home beginning at 1p.m. with Mark McKinney, minister of The Bridges, presiding. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
