Chesy girls use offense to get easy wins

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers scored 28 runs in back-to-back wins including a 16-3 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets on Friday.

The Lady Panthers beat Ironton 12-1 on Thursday.

On Friday, Chesapeake took control with 12 runs in the first inning as they had six hits, six walks and a hit batsman.

Sarah Mayo and Myky Harmon each had two-run doubles, Jordan Porter and Anna Mayo had two-run singles while Sarah Rice and Caitlyn Heffner had RBI singles in the uprising.

The Lady Panthers got a run in the second when Taylor Riggs and Sarah Mayo walked, Rice hit into a fielder’s choice and Harmon reached on an error as the run scored.

Chesapeake got three runs in the top of the third inning to lead 16-0.

Ali Ransbottom had a one-out single, Riggs was safe on an error and Rice had an RBI double. Heffner followed with a run-scoring double.

Rice got the win with relief help from Macy Allen.

On Thursday, Rice pitched a two-hitter and the Lady Panthers combined eight, eight walks and five errors in the win over Ironton.

The game was scoreless until Chesapeake got two runs in the third inning.

Sarah Mayo and Heffner both walked and scored on a two-out double by Harmon.

Chesapeake blew the game open with an eight-run fourth inning.

Anna Mayo and Porter walked, Ransbottom singled and Riggs had a two-run single.

Sarah Mayo had a two-run double, Rice walked and Harmon grounded out as a run scored. Allen and Anna Mayo walked and Porter singled in a run. An outfield error on the play allowed two more runs to score.

The lead went to 12-0 in the fifth when Sarah Mayo and Rice reached on errors, Heffner walked and Harmon had a two-run single.

Ironton got its run in the bottom of the inning when Andi Kratzenberg singled, stole second and third and scored on Karlie Collins’ base hit.

Chesapeake (4-10, 3-3) hosts Coal Grove on Monday in the sectional tournament at 5 p.m.
