PROCTORVILLE — Sashe Burcham did the pitching, her teammates did the hitting, and the Fairland Lady Dragons did a number on the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

Burcham struck out 10 and didn’t walk a batter as she fashioned a two-hitter to lead Fairland past the Trojans 10-1 Monday in the Division III sectional semifinals.

Fairland (9-8) pounded out 13 hits with Jaimie Phillips going 3-4 with a triple and Stormie Spitzer 3-4 with a double.

After a scoreless first, Fairland scored five times in the second inning.

Phillips singled, Kerie Napier walked and Miranda Christian hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored.

Chelsey Stanley doubled home two more runs and Haley Woodall and Amber Bias reached on errors as two more runs came home.

Portsmouth got its run in the top of the third but Fairland answered with two in the bottom of the inning.

Phillips singled and moved up on an error, took third on a ground out and scored on Spitzer’s hit. Spitzer stole third and scored on a bunt single by Christian.

Chloe Stanley and Phillips had triples to open the fourth and Spitzer doubled as the lead went to 9-1.

The final run scored in the sixth on singles by Napier, Spitzer and Taylor Devaney and Brianna Yates ground out.

Fairland visits Raceland at 5 p.m. Wednesday and goes to South Point at 5 p.m. Friday in the sectional finals.
