SOUTH POINT — Edward Eugene Smith, 84, of South Point, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011, at his residence. The Ironton native was born May 14, 1927, the son of the late Fredrick William and Hazel Spears Smith. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilma Jean Neal Smith, whom he married Dec. 4, 1948.

Mr. Smith attended Ironton and South Point Schools and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a former maintenance worker for Carlyle Tile and was of the Baptist faith. He loved fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and talking on his CB radio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Allen Smith; three brothers, George Smith, Robert Smith, and Kenneth Smith; a granddaughter, Kelli Smith; and a sister, Clara Smith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward II and Kathy D. Smith, Mike and Linda Smith, and Donald and Kathy A. Smith, all of South Point; grandchildren, Lisa McFarland, Mike and Misty Smith, Jason Smith, David and Melissa Smith, John and Brittany Walters, and Beth Kiser, all of South Point; great grandchildren, Jacob McFarland, Brady and Jacob Walters, Isabella Smith, and Austin Smith, all of South Point; and a sister, Janice Williams of Ashland, Ky.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net
