Patricia Vecellio

Patricia Vecellio, 73, a lifelong resident of Ironton, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at a medical facility in Dublin. She was born on May 8, 1938, and was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mildred “Jean” Everly Somers. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Somers of California. Patricia was valedictorian of the St. Joseph class of 1956. After graduating, she married Newell Hyland, who passed away while serving in the Army. She is survived by three children from her second marriage; Francis N. Vecellio and his wife Karen of Kinderhook, N.Y., Theresa Saul and her husband Michael of Ironton, and Marian Layne and her husband Terry of Ironton. She has eight grandchildren; Rebecca and Tom Saul, Christina and Kimberly Zimmerman, Toni Layne, and Marissa, Francis Michael and Benjamin Vecellio. She is also survived by her sisters; Jean Somers Miller of Albany, N.Y., and Helen Martin of South Point, and many nieces and nephews. Patricia was a graduate of Ohio University where she earned a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education. She taught in the Ironton City School District for 37 years. She was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Committal service will be at Calvary Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
