A fire that destroyed a two-story frame house on South Eighth Street in Ironton remains under investigation.

The Ironton Fire Department responded at 10:31 p.m. Thursday to 2628 S. Eighth St. The dwelling was fully engulfed on the crew’s arrival. The owner, Karen Walk, wasn’t home at the time.

Firefighters were at the scene until 1:02 a.m., according to Capt. Craig Thomas. The fire started in the front of the living area. No one was in the house at the time and there was no damage to the surrounding houses.
