ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — Police are searching for a former Ashland resident in the death of a toddler who was left in his care and died of head injuries three months ago.
Police say 45-year-old Brian Brewster was indicted by a Boyd County grand jury on charges of first-degree manslaughter and first-degree persistent felony offender.
The child’s mother, 19-year-old Lakyn Jobe of Ashland, was also indicted, on a charge of first-degree criminal abuse. She was arrested Monday.
Police say 16-month-old Cally Jobe was left with Brewster, who had been staying at Jobe’s residence, and was unresponsive when her mother returned. She was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center, where the West Virginia state medical examiner’s office said she died May 3 of “abusive closed head injuries,” Kentucky State Police said.
