Arch Worley

Arch B. Worley, 87, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2011, with his faithful friend, Poodle Rusty, on his lap.

Arch was born in Pedro, on Feb. 12, 1924. He was son of the late Earl and Pearle M. Harper Worley.

He was employed by CSX Railway as a machinist in the wheel room until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Collette during World War II. He established two scholarships at Ohio University Southern for Ironton High School graduates.

Arch was an avid walker at the Town Center Mall, walking daily for 22 years. He loved to ride his bicycle around Ironton for many years.

Survivors include his loving daughter, Vicki Bertram and husband Mickey, who were his faithful caregivers for the last two years; grandson Mike Bertram (Hope), sister-in-law Sandra Currington Benson (Hank), niece Stacy Benson Niethammer (Jason), great niece Allie Niethammer and numerous other nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special and faithful friends, Bob Workman, Jim Miller, Roy Miller, Imogene Carey, David Smith and many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Georgene Howard Worley; daughter, Gwendolyn Sue Worley; brothers Clyde Worley and Buell “Pete” Worley.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery with graveside military rites by VFW Post 8850 and friends may call today from 6 – 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to Tri-State Industries, 606 Carlton Davidson Lane
