Flags display honors our brave soldiers

In one week, Lawrence County residents will get an opportunity to pay tribute to those who sacrificed during the Iraq war.

County residents should be proud to have a group like the American Legion Post 433 and member Ted Riedel for being proactive and bringing the “Ohio Flags of Honor” traveling memorial to Ironton.

All too often we think about the brave men and women who serve our country but not in a visual way such as this or have the outlet to collectively meet in this type of setting.

In addition to serving as a way to pay tribute to those men and women, this allows families to pay special remembrance to family members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The traveling memorial also allows families to meet and have fellowship with other families who have faced or are facing similar circumstances.

This will not solely benefit residents of Lawrence County. This memorial will provide an outlet for surrounding areas as well.

We encourage all Lawrence County and residents of the Tri-State to plan a visit to this memorial between Friday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Aug. 21.

These types of events provide a lasting reminder of the men and women who serve our country and will provide a blueprint for events like these in the future.
