Warren Harmon

Warren David Harmon, 79, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 9, 1931, the son of the late Edward and Dora Hilgenberg Harmon.

Mr. Harmon attended Dawson-Bryant Schools and was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was a retired truck driver for Spriggs Distributing Co. for 18 years and also drove for Wilson Freight for 12 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8850, a member of the Teamsters Union #159, the Ironton Elks #177, the Ashland Eagles, the El Hasa Shrine in Ashland and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Ruth Carver Harmon; second wife, Barbara Frampton Harmon; four brothers, Homer Harmon, Eddie Harmon, Dewey (infant) Harmon and Arthur “Chris” Harmon; and two sisters, Rosemary Beals and Marjorie Neville.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Julie and Dave Cordle of Greenup, Ky. and Susan McMeeken of Newport; a son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Annie Harmon of Marietta; two brothers, Stanley Harmon and Tony Harmon; a sister, Katherine Thacker; six grandchildren, Mandi Jackson of Lexington, Ky., Laura Creswell of Ironton, Kayla Cordle of Raceland, Ky., Lindsey Vanostar of Georgia, Morgan McMeeken of Georgia and Michael Harmon of Marietta; 10 great grandchildren; 10 nieces seven nephews; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Frampton of Florida and Fred Neville, Jr. of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW 8850.
