Gary Hanshaw

PEDRO— Gary Ray Hanshaw, 61, of Pedro, passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Lawrence County native was born June 17, 1950, the son of the late Lester and Amy Brammer Hanshaw. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Perry Hanshaw.

Mr. Hanshaw was a 1968 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former employee of Sunoco Chemical and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church for 30 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved watching his granddaughters play sports.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Hanshaw; a sister, Penny Hanshaw; a niece, Misty Miller and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Irene Perry.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Amy Hanshaw of Kitts Hill; two granddaughters who were the love of his life, Brooke and MaKenzie Hanshaw of Kitts Hill; a brother, Perry Hanshaw of South Point; a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Tennyson Hall of Ironton; a sister, Kathy Hanshaw of Kitts Hill; a sister, Donna Thomas of Kitts Hill; sisters-in-law, Cindy Depriest and her husband, Dean of Pedro, Connie Miller and her husband Mark of Pedro, and Mary Perry of Ironton; a brother-in-law, Randy Perry and his wife, Tammi of Deering.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Green and the Rev. Ronnie Blagg officiating. Burial will follow in Etna Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tom and Chris Hall, Nick Hanshaw, Andy Miller, Kip and Cody Perry, Jeff Morgan and Ryan Fradd.
