Keith “Smitty” Smith

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Keith “Smitty” Smith, 64, of Columbus, Miss., passed away, Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, Miss.

Visitation for Mr. Smith will be from 2 – 3 p.m. today at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, Miss.  A Memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Larry Franz.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 7, 1947, to the late Charles B. Smith and Jessie Marie Greer Smith in Ashland, Ky.  He served in the United States Air Force. He was a self-employed labor relations consultant. Mr. Smith moved to Columbus in 1987 from Ironton. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, the Kentucky Wildcats and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Franz.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smith, Columbus, Miss.; daughter, Jan Smith, Columbus, sons, Jon (Terri) Smith, Caledonia, Miss., Jimmy Smith, Brooksville, Miss., and Joey (Erin) Smith, Pittsburg, Pa. Grandchildren, Jeremiah Walker, Toi Neil, Julia Paige Smith, Joshua Patrick Smith and Cody Smith. Great-grandchildren, Christian Walker, Caleb Walker, Kiya Neil, Kalia Neil, Keariah Neil and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Franz, Thad Franz, Titus Franz, Greg Smith and Rodney Smith.
