Ironton 42, Wheelersburg 13

Tyler Hager ran 20 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns and the Ironton FightingTigers dominated the Wheelersburg Pirates 42-13 in Friday night’s season opener before a standing room only crowd at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

Ironton racked up 383 total yards including 352 rushing on 66 carries. Trevor White added 74 yards on eight attempts and scored twice including a 27-yard scamper on the first play of the second quarter to give Ironton a 6-0 lead.

Hagger added runs of 43 and one yards and White a 22-yarder as Ironton opened up a 25-0 halftime lead.

Wheelersburg had only three first downs over the first three quarters on 22 plays. The Pirates ran just two plays in the third quarter and the second was a safety as Skylar Fields tackled Pirates’ quarterback Alex Shears in the end zone for  a 27-0 lead.

The Pirates had 139 total yards but only 31 over the first three quarters.

Coal Grove 43, Meigs 7

COAL GROVE — Quarterback Alex Bare ran for 110 yards and threw for 128 to lead the Coal Grove Hornets to a 43-7 spanking of the Meigs Marauders on Friday.

Bare ran 65 yards for the Hornets’ first touchdown and threw a 33-yard scoring strike to Bryan Steele to make it 14-0 in the first quarter.

Greg Bender ran 9 yards for a touchdown, Bare hit Steele on a 43-yard TD pass and then ran 5 yards for another score as Coal Grove opened up a 35-7 halftime cushion.

Jordan Beals added 72 yards on seven carries as Coal Grove racked up 309 yards rushing and 432 total yards.

Chesapeake 47, Oak Hill 7

CHESAPEAKE — Andy Clark picked up a win in his coaching debut as the Chesapeake Panthers routed the Oak Hill Oaks 47-7 Friday.

Austin McMaster threw for 141 yards and ran for 85 more as the Panthers rolled up 443 total yards. McMaster had two touchdown runs in the fist quarter as the Panthers jumped out 21-0. He also threw a 55-yard scoring strike to Javon Thompson in the second quarter as Chesapeake opened up a 34-0 halftime lead.

Brandon Noble had 90 yards on 16 carries as Chesapeake picked up 302 yards rushing. The Panthers’ defense held the Oaks to 113 total yards and just 50 on the ground.

Portsmouth West 43, Fairland 13

WEST PORTSMOUTH — Adam Bricker and Kyle Auger combined for 250 yards rushing as the Portsmouth West Senators beat the Fairland Dragons 43-13 Friday.

Bricker had 127 yards on 17 carries and Auger 123 on 11 carries as West racked up 465 total yards including 386 on the ground.

Fairland had 225 total yards with 199 coming on the ground. Evan Maddox had 106 yards on nine attempts including a 64-yard scoring run  that got the Dragons within 14-7 with 1:42 left in the half. West led 21-7 at the break.

Minford 41, South Point 12

SOUTH POINT — Tyler Gaines ran for three first half touchdowns as Minford built a 35-6 halftime lead and the Falcons went on to beat the South Point Pointers 41-12 on Friday.

Gaines ran 16 times for 154 yards as Minford rushed for 391 as a team. Evan Howard was 3 of 6 passing for 60yards including a 60-yard TD pass to Zach Farrar in the first qurter.

Larry Brandon ran 14 times for 80 yards and Austin Majher was 2 of 6 passing for 63 yards and a 27-yard TD pass to Josh Payne in the second quarter to lead the Pointers.
