Hazel Cain

Hazel Meredith Cain, 78, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at King’s Daughter Medical Center, Ashland Ky. She was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Bumpass, Va., the daughter of the late June and Ida (Taylor) Meredith. She was a 1953 graduate of Ironton High School, received her bachelor’s degree at Ohio University and her master’s degree at Morehead State University. She was a teacher for Ironton City Schools for 33 years. She attended Friendship Baptist Church and Mount Olive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Cain Sr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2009; one daughter, Beatrice Cain; one brother, Reid J. Meredith; one sister, Edith L. Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Dorris Meredith.

Hazel is survived by one son, Jesse Cain Jr. of Ironton; one daughter and son-in-law, Terri (Luther) Wade of Ironton; three grandchildren, Joseph K. (Aracely) Cain of Geismer, La., Kenya Clemens of Ashland, Ky. and Jason M. Cain of Cincinnati; five great-grandchildren, Alauna, Austin, Alexis, Zion, and Hannah, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home with Rev. Doug and Richard Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.
