Prep Roundup: Lady Hornets down Lady Bulldogs

LOUISA, Ky. — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets opened the volleyball season with a win over the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Hornets posted a 25-12, 25-9 win as Haley Johnson had 18 points. Cheyenne Bellomy and AshleyAdkins scored 9 each.

In the junior varsity match, Coal Grove fell 21-10, 9-21 and 21-22.

Brooke Blakeman had 13 points and Kaitlyn Murphy 11 to pace the younger Hornets.

Pointers’ soccer ties West

WEST PORTSMOUTH — The South Point Pointers used a strong second half to battle back and tie the Portsmouth West Senators 3-3 on Tuesday in a soccer game.

West took a 3-0 first half lead on goals by Jordan Hyland, Aaron Craft and Jacob Bishop.

But the Pointers rallied as Danny Eckert scored at the 43-minute mark on an assist by Michael Lien.

Luke Kelley had a goal at the 75-minute mark with an assist from Liam Huff and then Lien tied the game with an unassisted gal at the 83-minute mark.

Goalie Brady Rickart had eight saves for the Pointers (0-1-3).

Pickerington Classic

PICKERINGTON —The Fairland Lady Dragons were 10th and the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 23rd in the Bengal Division of the Pickerington Classic cross country race on Saturday.

Fairland had 308 points as Shanan Ashton was 18th at 21:36. Sydney Pettit was No. 54 at 22:49, Megan Ashton No. 60 at 22:58, No. 83 Sarah Womock 23:44, No. 93 Jessica Price24:14, No. 121 Fiath Hurula 25:20 and No. 128 Savanah Nelson 25:39.

Ironton (572 points) was led by Ariel Schweickart who finished No. 46 with a 22:33 time.

Shannon Walker was 113 with 25:06 time and twin sister Colleen Walker was No. 133 with a 26:01 time.

Close behind was Ashton McMackin who ran 26:35 and was No. 139 and Brooklyn Shope No. 141 at 26:40.

Hannah Cronacher ran at 27:44 and was No. 151 followed by Maggie Thomas at No. 157 with a 28:04 time and Macy Wise was next at 28:08.

Ironton’s boys were 16th with 462 points.

Levi Runyon was No. 57 to lead Ironton. He ran a 20:22 time.

Robert Bishop was No. 95 at 22:15, Tyler Lawless No. 97 with a 22:22 time, Nick Bishop was No. 100 with a 22:44 clocking, Sean Lawless No. 113 at 24:12 while Caleb Franz was No. 118 with a 24:51 time.

Fairland’s boys were seventh in the 15-team Panther Division with 174 points.

Tanner Mattie was No. 13 overall with a 17:11 clocking and Logan Rowe was two spots back with a 17:12 time.

Raine Wireman was No. 18 at 17:22 followed by Ryan Stewart No. 56 at 18:12, Chad McComas No. 72 at 18:34, Zach Fannin No. 92 at 19:22 and Dylan Hannon No. 96 with a 19:27 time.
