CHESAPEAKE — Billie E. Smith, 87, of Chesapeake, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Allen Reasons officiating. There will be a private burial following the service at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Billie was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Fort Gay, W.Va., a daughter of the late Burleigh and Madge Lee New Lowe. She was a retired teacher’s aide, a former member of Gauley Bridge Baptist Church for 50 years, a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, was very involved in American Baptist Women Association, and she loved Marshall sports and the Cincinnati, Reds.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Smith; and one sister, Betty Jo Keaton. Billie is survived by one son, Steven Smith; one daughter, Carla Smith-Jones; three grandchildren, Jordan, Shannon, and Heather; four great grandchildren, Valkyrie, Tanner, Taitlyn and Treven; and one brother, Robert Lowe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church Missions Program. At Billie’s request, there will be no visitation.
