Gloria E. Royal

Gloria E. Royal, 85, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Clarksville, Tenn., native was born Sept. 26, 1925, a daughter of the late John and Bessie (Wooldridge) Davie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Royal; three brothers, John, Samuel and Moses Davie and two sisters, Anne Tipton and Margurrite Electa Pinkard.

She graduated from Evansville High School in Indiana.  After moving to Ironton, she began working as a lacer at Wilson’s Sporting Goods.  She was also a member of the V.F.W. 8850, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 590, past president of the Daughter of the Elks 442, and a Kentucky Colonel.  Gloria was also a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Ironton.

Gloria is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Royal of Ironton; two sons, Bruce (Donna) Royal of Ironton and Davie Royal of Ashland, Ky; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass will be celebrated at noon Tuesday by Father David L. Huffman at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church with burial immediately following in Calvary Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family 10 to 11:45 a.m. on the day of the service at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home.
