COAL GROVE — If the everyday hassles of cooking, cleaning and shopping within a budget have got you down, a local expert on the subjects will be giving lessons.

On Thursday, retired Dawson-Bryant High School home economics teacher, Carla Salyer will have the first of a three-class series, called Ladies Night, on making the everyday tasks some of us dread a little more manageable.

Beginning at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Coal Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, Salyer will start the series with discussions on grocery shopping within a budget.

“It will be tips for buying groceries at the best prices we can get,” Salyer said. “The economy has really made us stretch our dollar even farther.”

She will also discuss how to minimize trips to the grocery store by planning ahead.

The second session, the following Thursday, will talk about preparing meals that save time, are economical and nutritious.

The final lesson will be on cleaning and how to save time doing it.

“How to get your house user friendly,” Salyer said.

There will also be tips for cleaning your home using products that are usually handy, like vinegar and baking soda.

Salyer said she will lead the discussion but group participation is encouraged so everyone can learn from each other’s experiences.

The classes are free and open to the public. The church is located at 226 Memorial St. in Coal Grove.
