Lady Hornets notch 4th win

WILLOW WOOD — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets used four sets to get their fourth win as they beat the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings Wednesday in a volleyball game.

The Lady Hornets (4-0) beat the Lady Vikings 25-15, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-20.

Cami Hillier had 17 points and 36 assists to lead Coal Grove. Ashley Adkins added 16 points while Haley Johnson recorded 15 kills.

The junior varsity also won for the third time in four games.

Coal Grove plays its third game in as many days at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at home against Ohio Valley Conference opponent Rock Hill.

Jackson wins Quad Match

PINE GROVE — It was cold and wet, but the Jackson Ironmen didn’t let the weather bother them.

Jackson put together four solid scores as they won a golf quad match at the Ironton Country Club on Wednesday.

Jackson used scores of 42, 42, 43 and 44 to post a team total of 171.

The Coal Grove Hornets were next with a 174 score as Brent Morgan shot a 4-over par 39. Conor Markins and Coty Davidson each shot a 44 while Brandon Adkins and Jacob Myers had identical totals of 50.

Elliott County, Ky., was third at 180 but featured the day’s medalist as Ryan Gillium shot a 2-over 37.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers had a scored of 206 led by Josh Zornes with 42. Travis Taylor had a 53, Jaylen Thornhill 54 and Rhett Ball added a57.

Luke McGraw shots a 54 for Ironton St. Joseph.
