Wilburn K. Smith, Sr.

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Wilburn K. Smith, Sr. 93, of Bluefield, originally of Ironton, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Westwood Medical Center in Bluefield after an extended illness. The Lawrence County native was born June 1, 1918, the son of the late John and Anna Dilley Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Marcella “Dalton” Smith; three sisters: Kathryn Smith Reed, Mary Margaret Smith and Rose Ann Smith, and one brother, Ernest S. Smith.

Survivors include one son, Wilburn K. Smith, Jr. and wife Judy Ann Smith of Bluefield; two grandchildren, Charles Smith of Charleston, W.Va. and Kelli Smith Carter and husband Jeremy Carter of Bluefield; four great-grandchildren, Vincent and Sophia Smith, Seth and Blake Carter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church of Ironton and co-owner of Smith Brothers Garage with his brother Ernest. He was also a veteran of WWII.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. William Flannery officiating. Internment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers a memorial gift may be made in Wilburn’s name to First Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 1325 Augusta Street, Bluefield, WVA 24701.
