COAL GROVE — Charles E. Arthur, 85, of Coal Grove, Ohio passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 8, 1926, the son the late James and Bernice Legg Arthur. He is survived by his wife, Lillian “Pat” Crabtree Arthur.

Mr. Arthur attended Coal Grove schools and was an employee at Allied Chemical Ironton Solvay Plant, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Community Tabernacle Church in Coal Grove. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Gail Carver; a son, Charles E. Arthur Jr.; a sister, Leona Gillilano; a brother, George Anderson and a grandson, Donnie Delawder.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Jim Reed of Huntington, W.Va.; a grandson, William “Bill” Reed, also of Huntington; a granddaughter, Sara Christian of Ashland, Ky.; a son-in-law, Thomas and Virginia Carver of Ashland, Ky.; two brothers, Eugene and Nell Arthur of Coal Grove and Raymond Arthur of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Earnestine Hunley of Coal Grove; his great-grandchildren, Alyssa Reed and Cade Reed of Huntington, W.Va., Zane Christian, and Cole Christian both of Ashland, Ky., and numerous friends and church friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Friend officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with visitation on Monday from 11a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
