Stewart Alfrey

Stewart Roger “Alf” Alfrey 68 of Ironton, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born July 15, 1943, the son of the late Emmett and Oma Mae McGuire Alfrey. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Williams Alfrey whom he married Nov. 11, 1967.

Mr. Alfrey was a 1962 graduate of Dawson Bryant High School, an Air Force veteran, and was a masonry worker for AK Steel for 38 years, retiring in 2005. Mr. Alfrey was an avid golfer, bowler, and a fan of the Ironton Fighting Tigers.

In additon to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters,Ruth Jewell, Cassandra Sue Alfrey and Dolores Ann Alfrey.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Julie Ellen Alfrey of Ironton; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Amy Alfrey of South Point; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Fondalene Alfrey of Ironton and Phillip and Carol Alfrey of Ironton; three special friends, Paul Johnson, Ralph “Wolfman” Roberts and Don Battise, all of Ironton; and a childhood friend, Sonny Clark of Florida.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lee Cremeans. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

Mary Ervin

Mary Ervin, 73, of Ironton, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Brown Funeral Chapel.
