Panthers win OVC golf title

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — It was like the Three Musketeers plus d’Artanian. All four together got the job done.

With four golfers earning all-league honors, the Chesapeake Panthers easily won the Ohio Valley Conference golf tournament Wednesday at Sugarwood Golf Course for the third straight year.

Chesapeake had a 312 team score while the runner-up Coal Grove Hornets posted a 349 score.

The Fairland Dragons had a 369 team total followed by the South Point Pointers with a 402, the Rock Hill Redmen 408 and the River Valley Raiders had a 420 total.

The Panthers’ Nick Duffield came away as the OVC medalist as he fired a 2-under 70. Seth Waggoner shot a 78, Eric Kennedy 81 and Drew Oxley 83 to give Chesapeake four All-OVC members.

Also playing for the Panthers were Eric Sias with an 84 and Shane Stevens had an 86. Only the top four scores are counted in the team total.

Coal Grove had the only other golfers to earn All-OVC honors as Brent Morgan shot a 79 and Conor Markins carded an 82.

Cody Davidson shot a 92, Brandon Adkins 96, Tori Holmes 105 and Justin Mullens 122 to round out the Hornets’ scoring.

Fairland was led by Bailey Manns and Hunter Schenewark who each shot an 88. Evan Salyers had a 96, Ryan Wooten 97 and Tyler Blake 98.

Callie Taylor shot a 90 to pace the Pointers followed by Jordan Lynd with a 97, Caleb Jones 103, Austin Wellman 112, Chris Davis 124 and Barbara Collins 126.

Drew Kidd had a 94 to pace Rock Hill. The other team members were Heath Markel with 100, Cody Cox and James Barker 107, Cody Cremeens 109 and Kyle Morris 137.

Dan Goodrich shot an 82, Jordan Howell 102, Taylor Woolridge 116 and Zach Morris 118 for River Valley.
