LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville still might be not be a full strength for its game against Marshall after using its bye-week to get healthy.

Coach Charlie Strong said Monday that quarterback Will Stein is questionable for Saturday’s game against the Thundering Herd following a shoulder injury against Kentucky. Stein has not practiced since that game.

Strong said if the game were played today his starting signal caller couldn’t go. Teddy Bridgewater would again step in if Stein is unavailable.

“Each day it’s going to be day-by-day,” Strong said of Stein’s shoulder. “We’ll just see where we are on game day and if he can really go out and throw the ball and if he can go out, take a snap and hand the football off. But we just don’t know for sure if he’s going to play or not.”

Bridgewater, a true freshman, went 10 of 18 for 106 yards and threw two touchdowns in leading Louisville to its 24-17 win against Kentucky.

Dominque Brown will remain as the third-string quarterback in addition to his new duties in the Louisville backfield. The sophomore switched positions to running back prior to the Kentucky game and responded with a team-high 91 yards rushing.

Cornerback Andrew Johnson and guard John Miller, both freshman starters, are working to return after suffering ankle injuries against Kentucky. Center Mario Benavides, the only returning starter on the offensive line from last season, has yet to see action this year after injuring his ankle in training camp but may play Saturday.

In addition to using the extra week to get healthy, Strong said it has allowed his team to refocus following the high of beating its main rival Kentucky for the first time in four years.

“I’m so glad that we didn’t play last week because I think they would have still be thinking about beating Kentucky and would have forgotten about the opponent that we’re going to play,” Strong said.

Following this weekend’s contest against Marshall, Louisville travels to North Carolina.
