Robert Rader

Robert Lee Rader, 76, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at his residence. The Portsmouth native was born July 22, 1935, the son of the late George Herman and Dixie McKenzie Rader. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Kay Staley Rader, whom he married June 23, 1956.

Mr. Rader was a 1953 graduate of Ironton High School attended Ohio University. He was the facilities director for 25 years for Ohio University Southern, retiring in 2007. He was a founding member of the Ironton-Ashland Habitat for Humanity, a 20-year board member of the Festival of the Hills, a member of First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and a member of the WPA Sunday School Class. He was also a Kentucky colonel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Leach; son-in-law, Eugene Higgins; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Dee Dee Staley; and sister-in-law, Sally Stone.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Paul Philip and Linda Rader of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter, Karla Elaine Higgins of Willow Wood; daughter, Jan Kathleen Rader of South Point; six grandchildren, Lindsey Rader, Gresha Henry, Thomas Rader, Seth Saunders, Katie Higgins and John Michael Higgins; a great grandchild, Ava Henry; brother-in-law, John Leach of Nokomis, Fla.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Perry and Jean Staley of Ironton; brother-in-law, Robert Staley of Portland, Maine; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Ironton with Rev. Dennis Strawn officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home and Thursday the body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Sally Holbrook

Sally Jean Holbrook, 86, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011. She was born May 2, 1925 in Floyd County, Ky., to Smith Webb and Elizabeth Hall Webb.

She was a faithful and loving wife of Burl Holbrook for 66 wonderful years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and faithful member of United Baptist Church for 60 years. She was a faithful member of the Westwood United Baptist Church in Westwood, Ky. until her death. She enjoyed meeting with many of the brethren and sisters of the churches of Iron Hill Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother John Webb, who died at birth; a son-in-law Carl Lemaster, and three special cousins Marie Hall Music, Doffee Hall, and Violet Hall. She had two sons James Holbrook (Phyllis) of Grayson, Ky. and Burl S. Holbrook, who lives at home; three daughters Patricia Lemaster, Bernice Unrue (Alan), and Brenda Branham (Carl); 11 grandchildren, Mark Lemaster, James Holbrook (Lori), Robert Holbrook (Julie), Adam Unrue (Becky), Matthew Unrue(Mary), Chris Holbrook (Christi), April Justice (Jeremy), Elizabeth Blair (Travis), Sandra Newell (Michael), Vicky Humphrey (Jason), and Steven Branham; one stepgrandchild, Shanaye Eaches; 14 great grandchildren, Dustin Holbrook, Emily Holbrook, Joey Unrue, Molly Justice, Rachel Unrue, Julia Lemaster, Leah Unrue, Allyson Holbrook, Megan Justice, David Blair, Landon Newell, Emma Humphrey and Ellie and Elizabeth Blair; and one stepgreat-great grandchild Aleigha Eaches.

Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Old Oak Springs United Baptist Church, Ashland, Ky. Burial will follow in Holbrook family cemetery. Edwin Jones

WITCHITA, Kan. — Edwin D. Jones, 57, of Witchita, a retired Boeing engineer, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 15, 2011. Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home with Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home on the day of the service.

Edwin is survived by his father, John Jones of Lihue, Hawaii; two sisters, Gail Jones-Nemeth of Rockville, Md. and Karen Balog of Ravenna; a brother, Edward Jones of Cincinnati; and a companion, Donna McNeal of Wichita, Kan.
