The Vikings turned in a strong all-around performance as they beat the Green Bobcats 50-6 on Friday in the Southern Ohio Conference opener.

“We finally put four quarters together. We played well,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb. “I’m extremely proud of all our kids. We played well in all three phases of the game.”

The Vikings (5-1, 1-0) racked up 423 yards of total offense including 331 yards on the ground. D.J. Miller ran 10 times for 68 yards and scored twice while Alec Herrell had four carries for 66 yards and also had two touchdowns to lead the win.

Quarterback Cody Myers threw for 92 yards and ran for another 48 on seven carries.

The defense limited Green (3-3, 0-1) to 137 total yards. The Bobcats had 96 yards rushing on 40 attempts.

The two teams exchanged fumbles to start the game, but then the Vikings went 47 yards in just two plays. The second was a 44-yard pass from Myers to Herrell covering 43 yards and it was 7-0.

After the defense forced a three-and-out, the Vikings went 50 yards in two plays as Herrell broke free on a 43-yard run.

The lead went to 21-0 on a 15-yard run by Tyler Rowe to cap a 58-yard, 7-play drive.

Herrell returned a punt 40 yards to set up a 1-yard scoring run by Miller on the first play of the second quarter and it was 28-0.

The teams traded interceptions with Miller picking off a pass for the Vikings to get up an 8-play, 61-yard drive. Miller got the score as he hooked up with Myers on a 33-yard scoring play and it was 35-0.

Symmes Valley went a short 46 yards to start the second half as Jordan Fulford scored from 4 yards out and it was 42-0.

Green avoided the shutout on a 25-yard jaunt by Clay Applegate with 5:39 left. The run capped an 87-yard, 7-play march.

The Vikings’ second team then went 50 yards in six plays capped by Corey Thacker’s 4-yard TD run. Tanner Mays added the conversion run.

The Vikings host Sciotoville East this Friday and community cancer survivors will be honored before the game.
