Author seeks help finding information on mother

Published 10:15 am Tuesday, October 4, 2011

I am researching my birth family for a book and am looking for anyone who worked at the Marting Hotel in the late 1950s and early 1960s and might have known or seen my birth mother, Betty Workman.

She sang with the Harry Ware Trio at the Sand Bar. Mr. Ware played the piano and organ at the Marting for a number of years, and another Ironton resident, Fred Sell, was in his band.

In the mid-1950s, Betty sang as a guest on the “Saturday Night Jamboree” on WSAZ-TV in Huntington, W.Va., where she lived most of her life.

If you worked at the Marting during that period and have memories of Mr. Ware and his band or Betty, please contact me.

If you know of anyone else who is still alive and can help, or if you visited the Marting and saw Betty perform, or crossed paths with her at all while she lived in Ironton, please let me know.

Even if you remember watching Betty sing on the Jamboree on TV, I would love to hear from you.

I can be reached via email at frank.christlieb@yahoo.com or via the phone at 817-995-1914.

Thank you sincerely for your help.
