FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green Bobcats were missing their running game and consequently they missed a chance to beat the Waterford Wildcats.

With starting tackles Casey Frazier and Chris Vestal out, the Bobcats’ running game was stifled and left them one-dimensional in a 13-7 loss on Friday.

Quarterback Steve Blanton was 15 of 32 for 185 yards and Green threw 36 total passes and gained 203 yards. But with no running game, the Bobcats couldn’t punch in a score when they got close to the goal line.

The Bobcats (3-4) had just 56 yards rushing on 28 attempts.

“They scored twice and after that we shut them down,” said Green coach Dan McDavid. “Our offense struggled. We came out looking to run on them and they shut it down and that forced us to throw almost exclusively.”

Darek Brown scored on a 6-yard run and Jake Stewart ran 2 yards for a touchdown to put Waterford (4-3) ahead 13-0 at the half.

Green got on the scoreboard when Rob Applegate ran 3 yards with 7:55 to play.
