Farland boys, girls win OVC cross country titles

PROCTORVILLE — There was not hiding the fact the Fairland Dragons and Lady Dragons had the dominant Ohio Valley Conference cross country teams.

The Dragons and Lady Dragons easily claimed OVC cross country championships on Tuesday at Fairland’s home course.

The Dragons had seven of the first eight runners to finish with only 15 points. The River Valley Raiders were second with 74 points followed by the South Point Pointers with 89, the Coal Grove Hornets 94 and the Rock Hill Redmen had 107.

In the girls’ race, the Lady Dragons took places three through eight and had just 20 points. River Valley was next with 51 and Coal Grove had 68.

Fairland’s Tanner Mattie ran a 16:44.20 to take the overall individual title. He was followed in the next four spots by teammates Raine Wireman (17:03.90), Logan Rowe (17:23.60), Ryan Stewart (17:43.0) and Chad McComas (17:58.30).

Coal Grove’s Jacob Pauley broke up the Fairland group with an 18:27.20 time to place sixth.

Fairland’s Zack Fannin was seventh at 18:32.0 and Josh Sifford eighth at 18:33.40. South Point’s Josh Archambault was ninth (18:38.20), River Valley’s Trent Wolfe 10th (18:39.60) and Rock Hill’s Aaron Dalton (18:53.80) was No. 11.

River Valley’s Katie Blodgett ran a 20:47.30 to win the girls’ individual honors. South Point’s Sara Letchford was second at 21:12.60.

Next came six Fairland runners at Shanan Ashton ran a 21:41.70, Megan Ashton 22:12.00, Sarah Warnock 22:36.80, Sydney Pettit 23:04.50, Jessica Price 24:07.60 and Carrie Tanner 24:29.50.

Coal Grove’s Katey Erwin was ninth at 24:30.70 followed by Fairland’s Savannah Nelson (24:32.30) and Faith Hurula (24:47.60).

In the middle school meets, Fairland’s boys had 19 points and Rock Hill 40 while the Lady Dragons was first with 20 points followed by Rock Hill with 54, River Valley 64 and Coal Grove 95.

Fairland’s Taylor Perry (13:07.20) had the best girls’ individual time while the Dragons’ Conner Flynn won the boys meet (11:39.50) over Rock Hill’s Seth Miller (11:40.80).

The district cross country meets for boys and girls Division II and III will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the University of Rio Grande.
