Charles Haynes

Charles Gregory “Greg” Haynes, 61, of Ironton, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born June 10, 1950, in Ashland, Ky., the son of the late Charles and Mary Easter Slone Haynes.

He was of Protestant faith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era and was an avid sports fan. He worked as a chef through out the tri-state.

He was preceded by a sister, Margaret Haynes Flannery.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Collins Haynes; his step children, Alisha Pierce and Sean Pierce; his grandchildren, Brad Pierce, Brea Pierce and Karlee Pierce; three brothers, Chad Haynes of Lexington, Ky., Michael Briley, also of Lexington and John Haynes of Middleburgh, Ky.; his nephews, Fredrick Briley and Eli Barnett; his nieces, Mary Barnett and Hope, Christinia, and Ellen Haynes, and Pierce Northstrum; five uncle’s and three aunts.

Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Sean Pierce officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Post 8850 V.F.W. will perform military rites. Burial will be in Collins Family Cemetery with military gravesides rites conducted by VFW 8850. Norma Barnes

Norma Jean Barnes, 78, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at a local health care center. The Gallia County native was born Sept.1, 1933, the daughter of the late Earl Edwin and Mearl Faulkner Barry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Eugene Barnes.

Mrs. Barnes was a graduate of Gallia County School and a homemaker. She attended the Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of the VFW Post 8850 Women’s Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Barnes and two sisters, Ruby Horn and Lucille Eastam.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carol Barnes of Napoleon, a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Charlene Barnes of Ironton; a son and daughter-in-law, Shayne and Cindy Barnes of Ironton; six grandchildren, Angie Williams and her husband, Robert of Napoleon, Jason Barnes and his wife, Carrie, Jeremy Barnes, Derrick Barnes and fiancee Allison McCoy, Kimberly Barnes-Peyton and her husband, Sgt. Josh Peyton, Ashley Barnes-Kellogg and her husband, Christopher, all of Ironton; six great grandchildren, Madison Barnes, Shayden Barnes, Bailey Peyton, Bentleigh Peyton, Savannah Barnes, and Lilly Barnes.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery with Bro. Jack Pemberton officiating. Visitation will be 10:30a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. John Tackett

WATERLOO — John Charles Tackett, 75, of Waterloo, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Saulsberry, Ky., native was born Sept.4, 1936, the son of the late Kohath and Marie Owens Tackett. He is survived by his wife, Sherri Parsons Tackett, whom he married June 1984.

Mr. Tackett attended school in Grahn, Ky., and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former steel worker for AK Steel in Mansfield before retiring in 1993.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Tackett; a sister, Odeama Booker and five other infant siblings.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Warren Steele of South Point; a son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Katherine Tackett of Ashland, Ohio; a son, Jeffrey Tackett of Mansfield; two brothers, Conard Tackett of Lexington, Ky., and Randy Tackett of Jefferson; two sisters, Gabria Perry of Cleveland, and Patricia Parson of Lexington, Ky., and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at the convenience of the family. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Emma Ruffing

WESTWOOD, Ky., — Emma Jean Ruffing, of Westwood, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at her residence. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Preston Family Funeral Home with Pastors Norman Potter and Tom Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. WURTLAND, Ky. — Norma Ruth Smith, 90, of Wurtland, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wedmesday at Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Fannin officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
