CHESAPEAKE — The Portsmouth Lady Trojans decided to concentrate all their efforts on Amanda Ruffner.

After Ruffner scored 15 points in the first half to give the Chesapeake Lady Panthers a lead, the Lady Trojans clamped down in the second half and rallied for a 53-48 win on Tuesday.

Ruffner scored 9 points in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 19-15 lead. She had 6 more in the second quarter and the lead was 28-27 at the break.

But the Lady Panthers managed just 6 points in the third quarter as Portsmouth rallied to take a 40-34 lead.

Sarah Rice and Ruffner had 5 points each in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to rally the Lady Panthers.

Ruffner had 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Rice had 8 points and 4 assists while Maggie Smith had 12 rebounds and Jordan Porter 7 rebounds.

Portsmouth (1-0) was led by Shanice Rollins with 15 points. Peyton Williams and Kaleigh White had 13 each.
