ASHLAND, Ky. — There is strength in numbers.

The Ashland Kittens used their depth and some long-range shooting to beat the South Point Lady Pointers 61-46 on Monday.

Ashland (3-0) hit seven 3-point goals en route to the victory.

“They just wore us down with their depth,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams. “They shot the ball well from the perimeter, but we got close in the fourth quarter and then we just ran out of gas.”

Allison Mitchell led South Point with 21 points. Erin Dillow added 10 points.

Kaylyn Gambill had 15 points and Alexis Robinson 10 to lead a balanced Ashland offense.

Dillow scored 5 points including a 3-pointer in the first quarter but Ashland hit four treys to take a 20-11 lead.

Mitchell scored 6 points in the second quarter as South Point got within 29-22 at the half.

But the Kittens outscored South Point 15-5 in the third quarter to open up a 44-27 lead.

Mitchell scored 8 points in the fourth quarter as South Point got within 8 points but could not get any closer.

“It’s a learning experience. We only have two players with varsity experience,” said Adams.
