South Point tops RH girls in OVC

PEDRO — The South Point Lady Pointers started fast and didn’t slow down.
South Point took a big first quarter lead and never looked back as they beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 63-38 on Thursday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.
“They hit some shots early and got rolling. We just weren’t aggressive and they took it to us,” said Rock Hill coach Alvin Carpenter.
Allison Mitchell led a balanced attack with 11 points. Erin Dillow scored 10 points while Brett Justice had 9 and Aundrea Bradburn 8 for the Lady Pointers (2-3, 1-0).
Katie Johnson had 14 poitns for the Redwomen (3-1, 0-1).
“Morgan Damron did a good job on Mitchell but their other girls all stepped up,” said Carpenter.
Dillow hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter as South Point jumped out to an 18-5 lead. The Lady Pointers outscored Rock Hill 17-12 in the second quarter to lead 35-17 at the break.
Mitchell had 7 points in the third quarter as the lead went to 53-25. Johnson had all 8 of Rock Hill’s points in the quarter.
