PEDRO — The Coal Grove Hornets didn’t mind the extra work.

The Hornets outscored Rock Hill 9-3 in the extra quarter as they beat the Rock Hill Redmen 47-41 in overtime on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We had too many turnovers, we missed too many easy shots and (Coal Grove) got several key offensive rebounds that hurt us,” said Rock Hill coach Bob Wilds.

Rock Hill had a chance to win the game in regulation but a shot with 2.5 seconds left rolled around the rim and fell off.

Alex Bare had 12 points to lead the Hornets (4-1, 1-1). Conor Markins scored 10 points and Jordan Beals added 9.

Trey Wilds and Will McCollister had 14 points each and Andy Knipp scored 12 for Rock Hill (3-2, 1-1).

Knipp also had 12 rebounds and McCollister 7. Wilds had 2 assists but the Redmen were guilty of 17 turnovers.

Wilds and McCollister had 5 points each in the first quarter as Rock Hill took an 11-5 lead.

Beals scored 6 of his points in the second quarter as Coal Grove rallied to get within 19-18 at the half.

Wilds had 7 points in the third quarter to offset 6 by the Hornets’ Kyle Estep as Rock Hill took a 30-28 lead.

But Bare scored 6 points including 4 free throws to tie the game and force the overtime.

Beals hit a 3-pointer while Markins and Bryan Steele made two foul shots each in overtime.
