Wanda Wilson

KITTS HILL — Wanda Jean McCoy Wilson, “Our Precious Angel”, 83, of Kitts Hill passed away Friday Dec. 16, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles Scott McCoy and Florence Dickess McCoy. She was the widow of her husband of 50 years Eugene Lee Wilson whom she married May 6, 1948 and who passed away Sept. 18, 1998.

She was a 1946 graduate of Kitts Hill School and was a member of the Mamre Baptist Church in Kitts Hill. She retired in 1991 after 25 years as a cashier for the Commonwealth Life Insurance Co. and was a member of the Christian Women’s Club in Huntington, W.Va. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded death by her sister, Sena Eloise Gore.

Wanda is survived by her two children: daughter, Andrea Jean Wilson of Kitts Hill; and son, Kevin Eugene Wilson of Kitts Hill.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan McKee and John Paul Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Mamre Cemetery. Edna Cassidy

ASHLAND, Ky. — Edna Mae Anderson Cassidy, 89, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland.

Mrs. Cassidy was born June 17, 1922, in Coal Grove, a daughter of the late John L. and Florence Irene Abbott Anderson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, George A. Cassidy in 1998; and a granddaughter, Devra Lynn Cassidy.

She was a member of Heritage Temple Freewill Baptist Church in Cannonsburg, Ky. and a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School.

Mrs. Cassidy is survived by a daughter, Diane (Danny) Greene of Summit, Ky.; two brothers: George Michael “Mike” (Betty) Cassidy of Cypress Loop, Fla., and John Patrick (Patty) Cassidy of Katy, Texas; a brother, Donald Lee (Helen) Anderson of Ironton; a sister, Elosie Anderson Dilly of Ironton; eight grandchildren, Sharon (Vernon) LeBlanc, Karen Raymond, Daron Cassidy, Michael Cassidy, Shannon (Keith) Mazy, Becky Walters, Brad (Heather) Greene and Nicholas (Tommie) Greene; 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The funeral will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., with Rev. Lloyd L. Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.

Betty Sexton

SOUTH POINT —Betty Pauline Sexton, 84, of South Point, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at her residence. The Coal Grove native was born Jan. 31, 1927, the daughter of the late Bert and Ethel Pemberton Hardin. She is survived by her husband Maurice Dewey Sexton whom she married Feb. 23, 1943.

Betty was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking and animals.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, James Graham; and

two sisters, Louise Davidson and Adrian Cremeans.

In addition to her husband she is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mary Pauline and James Stepro of Brandon, Miss.; son and daughter-in-law, Maurice Lewis  and Lena Sexton of Virginia Beach, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Larry David and Gina Sexton of Kitts Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Ray and Jamie Sexton of Chesapeake; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Scott and Pat Sexton of Scottown; two sisters, Mary Anson and Peggy Starr; 10 grandchildren;  and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Burlington Greenlawn Cemetery. Mary Jane McGuire

Mary Jane McGuire, 74, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her family. The Louisa, Ky., native was born June 9, 1937, the daughter of the late George and Fannie Spillman Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard McGuire.

Mrs. McGuire attended Ironton City schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ironton City Mission Church and the Carter Avenue Community Church in Ashland, Ky.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Adkins; a sister, Genny Sherman; and several other infant brothers and sisters.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Barry Steven and Carolyn Madden of Circleville; son and daughter-in-law, Randy Allan and Debbie Madden of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Donald J. and Cheryl Madden of Ashland, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Darrell Barker of Rock Camp; daughter, Janie F. Madden Shepherd of Circleville; daughter and son-in-law, Fanny and Larry Fisher of Greenup, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Brian Perkins of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Gary Paul Adkins of Ironton and Timothy Mark Adkins of Canton; four sisters, Phyllis Ramey, Georgia Case, Rona Davis, all of Fremont, Karen Shaffer of Ashland, Ky., Jackie Campbell of Grayson, Ky., Joann Haynes of Haverhill and Geraldine Thacker of Ironton; 13 grandchildren;10 great grandchildren; and a loving friend and special caregiver, Kim Bare.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Maddy officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 p.m. untill the time of the service at the funeral home. PallBearers will be Richard Keith Barker, Taylor Chance Barker, Joshua Adam Shope, Jesse Ray Fisher, Steven Alan Madden and Dylan Curtis McGuire.
