Margaret Hardy

KITTS HILL — Margaret Hardy, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior from her Kitts Hill home Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012.

The Lawrence County native was born in Kitts Hill on April 17, 1915 to David and Sadie Allen Morris.

Mrs. Hardy was homemaker who served as a living testimony to her community and family. She joined Union Baptist Church at Dog Fork at the age of 14 and was the oldest living member with 82 years. She taught the elementary level Sunday school class for many of those years. Mrs. Hardy was also the last remaining graduate of the Kitts Hill High School Class of 1934. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting.

Mrs. Hardy married Charles Wesley Hardy Sept. 5, 1936. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1998, after 61 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mattie Mae and Clyde Dickess and Mary E. Morris and her brothers, James Lewis Morris and William Henry and Stella Morris. She was also preceded in death by two nieces who were raised in the Morris home, Sadie Fay and Herald Humphreys and Nina Mae and Ralph Doughman, as well as sisters-in-law, Lillian and Carl Grimes and Mildred and Mayford Musgrave, brothers-in-law, James and Hilda Hardy and Harold and Mary Hardy.

Mrs. Hardy’s survivors include her son, Charles Phillip and Wanda Hardy; and a daughter, Joyce Ann Roach all of Kitts Hill; grandchildren, Troy and Heather Hardy of Kitts Hill, Roy and Chris Hardy of Bay Village, Lana Hardy of Kitts Hill, John and Ginger Hardy of Flatwoods, Ky., Tim and Jennifer Roach of Kitts Hill and Tracey and Scott Fate of Lewis Center; great-grandchildren, Jesse and Michelle Roach, Bethany and Kevin Jones, Casey Roach, Kelsey Hardy, Rorke Hardy, Rearden Hardy Nicholas Hardy, Rand Hardy, Weston Hardy Madison Fate, Taylor Fate, Chris Massie and Brooklyn Massie; great-great grandchildren, Kylie, Layken, Austin and Braylen Roach, Analiyah Hardy and Hannah Jones as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Long officiating. Burial will follow in Melvin Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Paul Ison

Paul Steven Ison Sr., 47, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Our Lady Of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.

The Ironton native was born April 16, 1964, the son of Dorothy Watkins Ison of Coal Grove, and the late Kenneth Ison Sr.

Mr. Ison was a 1983 graduate of Rock Hill High School and of the Apostolic faith. He was a truck driver for Aarow Concrete and loved to hunt, fish and be outdoors.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Ison, and a sister-in-law, Brenda Ison.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Turvey Ison, whom he married Aug. 10, 1984; a son, Paul Ison Jr. and Kelly Preston, of Pedro; a daughter, Jennifer Ison and Eric Markel of South Point; a daughter, Ashley Ison and D.J. Friend of Ironton; a sister, Anna Margret Spurlock of Flatwoods, Ky.; a brother, Kenneth Ison Jr. of Ironton; a brother, Alvin Ison of Pedro; a sister, Brenda Moore of Ironton; a brother, Gerald Ison of Coal Grove; a brother, David and Tina Ison of Ironton; a sister, Lisa and Ronnie Abrams of Ironton; a brother, Johnny Ison of Ironton; a sister, Stephanie and Cory Gillum of Ironton; a sister, April Ison of Ironton; and three grandchildren, Hannah Preston, Abigail Ison, and Stephen Ison.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home with Elder Willard Large officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Paul Leffingwell

CHESAPEAKE — Paul Leffingwell, 76, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, Jan. 08, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Carol Leffingwell. Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

 

Bessie Janice Hensley-Daniels

FLATWOODS, Ky. — Bessie Janice Hensley-Daniels, 80, of Flatwoods, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, along with her husband, Herbert Daniels. A double funeral service for them will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wurtland Church of God. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast for the construction of the Bell Tower.

 

Herbert H. Daniels

FLATWOODS, Ky.— Herbert H. Daniels, 82, of Flatwoods, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, along with his wife, Bessie. A double funeral service for them will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wurtland Church of God. James Turley

CROWN CITY — James Turley, 83, of Crown City, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at his residence. He was the husband of Helen Turley, who survives. Arrangements are pending at hall Funeral Home.

 

Phillip Hager

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Phillip R. Hager, 81, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Huber Heights. He was the husband of Fern Hager, who survives. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville assisted the family with arrangements.
