CHESAPEAKE — Sometimes you just have to give the other guy credit.

That’s what South Point coach Chris Barnes did after his Pointers fell 71-43 to the Lucasville Valley Indians on Saturday in the third annual Beast of the Southeast at Chesapeake High School.

The Indians had nine different players score as they improved to 9-2.

“Valley has good balance and they’re strong on the glass. They’re athletic and physical. Lucasville Valley is just a good team. They’re one of the best teams we’ve played,” said Barnes.

Blake Yates had 16 points, Rob Dwyer 11 and Jordan West and Hayden Dunn 9 each to lead the Indians.

Brandon Barnes had a game-high 23 points and Austin Jeffreys scored 10 to lead the Pointers (6-6).

Valley took a 21-6 first quarter lead and Yates had 9 points in the second quarter as the spread grew to 41-19.

Brandon Barnes had 12 points and Jeffreys 5 of the Pointers’ 19 first half points.

Dwyer scored 8 of his points in the third quarter as Valley went up 60-29.

Brandon Barnes scored half of the Pointers’ 24 second half points.

South Point hosts Boyd County on Tuesday.
