Arraignments fill common pleas docket

Woman pleads not guilty to stabbing husband

 

A Proctorville woman accused of stabbing her husband was arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Kristen McMillian, 35, of 1751 State Route 775, pleaded not guilty through her attorney J.T. Holt to second-degree felonious assault.

According a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, McMillian at first told authorities her husband, Jack, fell on a knife while eating cereal at their home. The report stated she later admitted to the stabbing.

The victim was treated at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., for a wound to his upper right abdomen.

Judge Charles Cooper continued a lower court’s bond of $30,000 cash or surety and scheduled a pretrial for Feb. 15.

In other cases:

• Two of 11 Kentucky residents accused of forging and cashing counterfeit checks in Lawrence County were arraigned.

Walter Warner, 41, of 911 Chestnut Drive, Ashland and Samantha Bertram, 23, 3224 Central Ave. pleaded not guilty to fifth-degree forgery.

None of the 11 people facing forgery charges were summoned to court, but Warner and Bertram showed up because they said they saw their names listed in a Tribune article about the Lawrence County Grand Jury indictments returned last week.

Cooper issued both Warner, represented by attorney Mike Gleichauf, and Bertram, represented by attorney Tyler Smith, a $25,000 OR bond and scheduled pretrials for Feb. 15.

The 11 indictments retuned last week were the result of an investigation by the United States Secret Service.

• Shawn Harris, 32, 2868 ½ Forest Ave., Ashland, Ky., was arraigned on one count of operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and driving while under suspension.

Harris pleaded not guilty through his attorney Mike Gleichauf. Cooper set a $25,000 cash bond and a $25,000 OR bond and scheduled a pretrial for Feb. 15.

• David Ray Jordan, 55, of 187 Spruce Lane, Poca, W.Va., was arraigned on one count of deception to obtain a dangerous drug.

Jordan pleaded not guilty through his attorney Mike Gleichauf. Cooper set a $25,000 OR bond and scheduled a pretrial for Feb. 22

• Kevin Canterberry, 47, of 77 Township Road 1503, Chesapeake, was arraigned on one count of third degree deception to obtain a dangerous drug and 29 counts of deception to obtain a dangerous drug.

Canterberry pleaded not guilty through his attorney Chris Delawder. Cooper set a $25,000 bond and scheduled a pretrial for Feb. 29.

• Winona Delawder, 39, of 112 County Road 105, Kitts Hill, was arraigned on one count of second-degree robbery.

Delawder pleaded not guilty through her attorney Warren Morford. Cooper set a $100,000 cash or surety bond and scheduled a pretrial for Feb. 8.
