CHESAPEAKE — It seems “13” is the Chesapeake Lady Panthers lucky number.

For the third straight season, the Lady Panthers picked up their 13th win as they beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 58-41 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Chesapeake coach Chris Ball said the string of success goes directly to his team, especially the six seniors who were honored before the game.

“It was a good night to be a coach. I just got to sit back and watch six young ladies play their final home game and all of them contributed in their own way,” said Ball.

“We’ve won 13 games all three of my years and it’s because of these girls. These are six girls who are not only special to me but to the school. We celebrated tonight what they mean to the Chesapeake school district.

Senior Amanda Ruffner turned in her own special performance with 21 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocked shots.

Jordan Porter added 10 points, 5 steals and 5 rebounds, Sarah Rice had 8 points and Jackie Nelson chipped in 6 points and 7 assists.

Brook Knipp scored 16 points — 1 in the fourth quarter — and Katie Johnson had 10 to lead the Redwomen (6-12, 0-9).

Ruffner got the Lady Panthers started right with 11 points in the first quarter and it was 15-7.

Porter had 6 points to offset 5 by Johnson as the lead went to 32-17 at the half. The lead was 48-26 after three quarters.

Chesapeake visits Coal Grove next Thursday while Rock Hill hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame on Monday in a non-league game.
